Things for a newborn - the most complete list with examples and prices. A dowry for a baby The essentials for a newborn

Some people think that buying a dowry for a baby before his birth is a bad omen.
I don’t believe in omens and believe that it is better to buy the necessary things in advance. Believe me, when you return from the maternity hospital with your baby, you will no longer have time for shopping.

I would like to immediately give you one important piece of advice on this topic.

So, girls, I present to you my list of things for a newborn in the first months, compiled and adjusted taking into account the birth of two daughters with a difference of 2.3 years.

BASIC

  1. Crib
    We bought the most ordinary classic crib without any pendulums or swings, because... I didn’t want to accustom my child to motion sickness. And I turned out to be right - both Alice and Faya fell asleep well and slept in the crib without any motion sickness. Of course, sometimes, for example, when his teeth were bothering him, he had to be calmed down with his hands or a fitball, but we only had a crib for sleeping.

I consider the most important criteria when choosing a crib to be reliability, natural material (beech, pine, birch) and the standard size for a mattress 120x60.
Also, I don't see the point in buying an expensive crib. Why overpay for beauty and brand? Better save your money, you will still need it very much)
If you are interested in what kind of crib we purchased, you can read .

  1. Mattress for the crib
    The best are orthopedic mattresses with coconut fiber and high or medium hardness. If possible, it is better to buy double-sided, so that one side is tougher - for a newborn, and when the child grows up, you can turn it over to the other side - which is softer.
  1. Waterproof mattress cover with elastic band
    You can, of course, not buy it, but lay a regular oilcloth, but I still advise you to buy a mattress cover, because... ordinary oilcloth slides off, besides, it rustles and this can wake up the child and, most importantly, the child may sweat on oilcloth, because it does not allow air to pass through.

If, suddenly, it happens that the mattress cover gets dirty (this can happen, for example, if the diaper is poorly secured), then while it is being washed and dried, you can put on a regular oilcloth or a disposable waterproof diaper.

  1. Bumpers and bed linen (pillowcase, duvet cover, sheet)
    We bought a set of the Sdobina brand of 8 items (canopy, fitted sheet, blanket, duvet cover, pillow, pillowcase, pocket organizer).

Well, what can I say, the quality of the set is excellent, it has survived numerous washes and still, for the fourth year now, looks like new and we actively continue to use it - now it is in Faya’s crib)

But, during operation, the following disadvantages emerged:
a canopy we don't need , we didn’t even hang it up, we sold it right away so it wouldn’t lie around. My opinion is that it is needed only for beauty, there is no benefit from it, but it probably collects a fair amount of dust.
one-piece side , at first I had to bend half of the side, and most importantly, it is very difficult to wash - it only fits into a washing machine with a load capacity of 8 kg or more. (thanks to my sister, it’s a real help, she has a washing machine with the same capacity). Therefore, advice - when you choose the sides, make sure that they are separate.
blanket too warm and thick filled with natural sheep wool. We took this blanket to the village and use it there and only in winter. In the summer, daughters sleep under a thin flannel blanket or, without it at all. When the house is cool, I take out blankets with bamboo filling, they are warm and very light.
fitted sheet
I don't like caring for it - after washing this sheet is very difficult to iron, then it is impossible to fold it neatly. As a result, I began to stroke her right in the crib, when I had already pulled her onto the mattress. Yes, a fitted sheet has an advantage - it can be quickly pulled onto the mattress.

But I would still prefer a regular sheet, which can then be placed in a crib of a different size (larger). A fitted sheet is only suitable for a crib of a certain size.
As you can see, there are quite a few disadvantages, although in general, I repeat, the set is not bad.

But, if I had to buy linen for the crib again, I would not buy it as a set, but all separately.
To begin with, you only need bumpers (it’s better to buy light, plain or neutral ones), a blanket and a set of linen (or better yet, two at once - they’ll still come in handy). I buy a pillow; a child does not need it until he is one year old.

The option of buying everything separately will allow you to save significantly, besides, you will have a large selection and you will buy only what you really need, and not what the manufacturer will offer you in a ready-made set of linen.
If, however, you decide to buy everything as a set, then keep in mind that, indeed, good sets are very expensive. And, if you see a set of 7 items for less than 4 thousand rubles, then most likely it will be of very low quality. Carefully study the description of the set, what materials it is made of (fabric, filling), check the completeness (what is included in the set) and be sure to check it by touch.

I also do not recommend choosing very bright colors - the baby should sleep in the crib, and too many bright patterns can distract and even frighten the newborn. In addition, keep in mind that you will still be changing bedding for different ones, so choose sets of neutral colors.

  1. Flannelette blanket
  2. The blanket is warm(bamboo or holofiber filler) if you do not plan to purchase it in a set
  3. Plain thick oilcloth
  4. Changing chest of drawers(for baby’s things + changing area)
  5. Changing mattress on the chest of drawers
  6. Night light for sleepless nights, which, unfortunately, often accompany a young mother, especially at first.
    It is better to place such a night light next to the changing table or baby’s crib. If there is no outlet nearby, then use an extension cord.

When a newborn appears in the house, it is not advisable to turn on bright lights at night, because You need to teach your child to differentiate between day and night. And, of course, bright light at night can disturb your other peacefully sleeping household members. Therefore, it is advisable to choose a night light with soft light.
There are small night lights that plug into an outlet. At first, we bought similar night lights at a fixed price. But they have a very big drawback - the light bulb burns out quickly.
One day we bought

  1. Stroller
    I love modular strollers with swivel wheels. We bought Alice a 3-in-1 Zippy Tutis (carrycot, seat unit and car seat). We were very pleased with the stroller, and used the cradle and the stroller unit, as they say, until the last) Unfortunately, we managed to sell this stroller.
    Therefore, Faya had to buy another one. Despite the fact that we really liked the Tootis Zippy, we decided to try something new and bought Adamex, a 2-in-1 Lara model (without a car seat). Also a very good maneuverable stroller with swivel wheels. Now we are already riding in a walking block.
    I note that both strollers (both Tutis and Adamex) passed tests on village roads very well)
  1. Car seat or infant carrier
    If you are planning frequent and long trips with a small child, then it is better to buy a car seat; it is more convenient for a newborn, because has a completely horizontal sleeping position. If the trips will be occasional and short distances, then you can immediately buy a category 0+ car seat with an insert for newborns.
    Little Alice and I often went to the village (the journey took 4 hours, in winter – 7 hours), so the car seat (which came with the stroller) was very useful to us. But at 6 months we had already grown out of it, bought an Inglesina Marco Polo car seat and rode in it for up to two years.
    Faya was born in December, we didn’t plan to go to the village in winter, we walked with a stroller to the clinic (10 minutes). Therefore, we decided to do without a car seat and immediately installed an Inglesina with an insert for newborns. In half a year we drove it only 5 times and only around the city (when we were discharged from the maternity hospital, for vaccinations at the vaccination center and on a visit).

Also, you may find these things useful:

  • Mobile for crib
    We had
  • Fitball
    We bought this ball when Alice was 2 months old. We used it for gymnastics, and also, it was very useful to us during periods of severe whims (when teeth were cutting). Attention! Do not overuse rocking on a fitball, otherwise your child will learn to fall asleep only this way.
    For gymnastics, the thing is simply irreplaceable, by the way, not only for the baby, but also for the mother) It is better to buy a regular smooth ball without “pimples.”
    We have a Torres ball, 65 cm in diameter – we still practice with it, now with Faia.
  • Chaise lounge
    If finances allow, you can buy it in advance. Or you can put off this purchase for now, but look for a model so that you don’t waste time choosing and searching later.
    You will need it when the baby is one month old and gets tired of constantly lying in the crib.
    For us, the chaise longue turned out to be a real lifesaver; both daughters happily lay there and played, and at that time I could do household chores.
    was with us.

  • You will definitely appreciate it if you practice breastfeeding and your baby eats for a very long time. This pillow is an extremely comfortable thing - it relieves the muscles of the arms, neck and back. Thanks to it, you can feed your baby and at the same time read, drink tea and chat online.
    The nursing pillow was very, very, very useful to me - up to 6 months, Alice could eat for half an hour or even more, and she fell asleep on it.
    Faya ate much faster, but I also fed her on a pillow and still feed her, although she will soon be one year old)
    By the way, I bought the simplest pillow in the shape of a horseshoe. I even remember the company - “Mama Shila” and the price - 350 rubles. (this was 2014).

Well, how do you like the list of things for a newborn in the first months - it’s long? But this is just the main thing)
Read the contents of the following sections in separate articles:

Of course, I’m not the first to talk about the topic of a dowry for a newborn; on many sites there are lists of what needs to be prepared for the birth of a baby, reaching up to 100-150 items. I want to talk about the most important thing, about what is really difficult to do without when caring for a newborn baby.

1. Diapers

Swaddling a baby in swaddling clothes is not fashionable now. Many pediatricians and psychologists advise young mothers to immediately put pants and blouses on their children. I adhere to the traditional view. Later, in my article on the adaptation of a newborn, I will try to justify the need for swaddling in the first months of life, but for now I will limit myself to a description of diapers.

So, whether you swaddle your baby or not, you still need diapers, it’s another matter in what quantity. Let's assume that you are swaddling your baby and using reusable diapers, then for the first month you will need 30 diapers. At the same time, never refuse old diapers that relatives or friends offer you. They may not be very beautiful, but such diapers become soft and absorb well after numerous washes.

If you are preparing everything new for your dowry, you need to buy:

  • 10 thin cotton diapers measuring 80x120 cm. These diapers are not very convenient for swaddling (due to their small size), but they are useful during bathing and for laying where you want to place a naked baby.
  • 10 diapers measuring 120x150 cm. Such diapers are not on sale, so you will have to buy thin cotton fabric and sew it yourself or take it to a studio. Large diapers are needed because the baby grows quickly, and sometimes you have to swaddle him to sleep until he is 8-9 months old. At first, these diapers can be tucked in, and in the future they can be used as crib sheets.
  • 10 knitted diapers measuring 120x120 cm. Knitted diapers measuring 95x120 cm are usually found on sale - these are also suitable. If you buy knitwear (it must be cotton), sew diapers 120x120 cm - this is the most convenient size for swaddling.

2. Diapers

  • Reusable – 20 pieces. They are made from old bed linen, from gauze (when choosing gauze, pay attention - it should be of the so-called high density) or from “bleached” chintz. This is chintz, which looks like gauze, with a very sparse weave of thread. In the store it may seem hard to you (it is starched during production), but after washing it will become soft. Diapers should be square, sizes vary from 80x80 cm to 95x95 cm.
  • Disposable diapers. 1 package (from 3 to 5 kg). For newborns, it is better to choose diapers that have a cutout for the navel. I advise you to use these diapers rarely - on a walk, on a visit, or at an appointment at the clinic. Don't get carried away with these diapers at night - it's very convenient for mom, but not always good for the baby.

3. Babydolls

It is better to buy knitted ones - they are more comfortable to wear. By design, they should be the most ordinary - without fasteners and ropes. Stock up on 3-4 baby vests of size 22 and 3-4 – 24. If the baby spits up frequently, you may need more. Blouses for size 26 are already being purchased. Also knitted, but no longer swinging, with fasteners, best on the shoulder.

4. Bonnets

You will need them for walks and at home if it is cool in your area. Buy 2 of each size. Nowadays there are knitted hats on sale - they don’t stay on the head as well, but the ties don’t put pressure on the neck.

5. Socks

Thin - 3 pieces. If your baby's feet are cold, put on socks before swaddling him.

6. Bodysuit, romper, jumpsuit

The quantity is not determined. They may be needed in a minimal amount if the baby is swaddled and left in a shirt without pants while awake.

7. Blankets

  • Thin – cotton, “fleece”.
  • Thick - down, wool or padding polyester

You can get by with 2 thin blankets (they are convenient because they are machine washable), on cold days additionally covering the baby with a down scarf - it is warm and light. Duvet covers - optional.

8. Oilcloth

It is best to buy disposable absorbent diapers, they come in children's and adult's, but it doesn't matter. Buy a pair of different sizes: 30x60; 60x60; 60x90 cm. Some sizes are suitable for a stroller and cradle, some for a crib and changing table. These diapers are used exactly like oilcloth, that is, the baby in diapers is placed on the oilcloth side, and not on the absorbent side.

9. Dowry for a newborn. Crib

The baby will need it no earlier than in 3-6 months, so you can save on buying it for now. For the first month it is better to purchase a cradle. This could be a large wicker basket, with a mattress sewn onto the bottom and the inner walls covered with cotton fabric bumpers. Some dads attach such a cradle to the ceiling with a luggage elastic band, and then it swings in different directions, even when the baby tosses and turns in his sleep.

10. Changing table

A very necessary thing. You can use the surface of a chest of drawers instead. There are special children's chests of drawers, on the surface of which limiting frames are attached. As a last resort, use part of a regular table. Next to the changing surface, place shelves on which all the necessary things will lie, so that when swaddling or getting the baby ready to go outside, you won’t have to stray too far from him. Do not leave your baby unattended on the changing table!

11. Bath

To bathe your baby, you will need a regular bathtub, large enough, with a flat bottom, the length of which should be at least 65 cm.

12. Water thermometer

Simplest. You will only need it in the first days; later you will learn to determine the temperature of the water by touch.

13. Terry towel

1 piece. Large, absorbs moisture well. Do not buy special towels with a hood; they are inconvenient for the first year of life.

14. Scissors

It is better to use good nail scissors rather than special ones with rounded ends (they are usually dull).

15. First aid kit

Your first aid kit must have:

  • hydrogen peroxide 3%;
  • pipette;
  • cotton swabs, cotton pads, a small package of sterile cotton wool;
  • brilliant green, calendula tincture or eucalyptus tincture;
  • herbs for bathing: string, chamomile, motherwort.

16. Baby cream

The cream can perfectly replace vegetable oil sterilized in a water bath. The best thing for a baby is pure almond oil, but the most common sunflower oil is also acceptable - you can use it to make St. John's wort oil. To do this, fill a clean jar with 34 cups of chopped St. John's wort, add oil so that it covers the herb, keep this jar in a water bath for 1.5 - 2 hours. The result is a dark green-brown oil with a pleasant herbal scent.

17. Envelope

Much more comfortable for walking than a blanket. For autumn - padding polyester, for winter - fur. The design is the simplest: a rectangular bag with a hood and a zipper.

18. Stroller

Your choice should be careful; your mood during daily walks depends on how comfortable the stroller is. Pay attention to how quickly and easily the stroller is assembled and disassembled, if you have to take it out of the house in parts (separate wheels, separate box), whether it fits into an elevator if you live in a multi-story building. The fabric covering the box should be cotton, the wheels should be thick, it is better that they are inflated with the supplied pump. Be sure to take into account the presence of shock absorbers - belt or spring (the softness of the ride depends on this).

Don't choose convertible strollers - they are usually more expensive, and you will most likely only need the first part of this transformer - a stroller with a large box. This stroller usually lasts the entire first year of the child. In the second year, babies do not like to sit during walks and prefer to walk.

19. Net and rain cover for the stroller

If you do not have the opportunity to buy a ready-made mosquito net suitable for the stroller model, you can find a soft net on sale and sew an elastic band around the edge.

20. Sling (sling) for carrying a child

Very convenient for short walks.

I hope that armed with this list, any pregnant woman can purchase everything she needs for her unborn child.

However, in many families there is an opinion that a pregnant woman should not collect dowry for a newborn before his birth, or even no one in the family needs to do this. I do not share this opinion. I know from myself how nice it is to choose things for your baby yourself, wash them, iron them and put them in the closet. And I think it’s very nice for a child who sits in his stomach to feel that his mommy is taking care of him.

But there are people who believe in bad omens and are afraid that if they prepare everything for the newborn in advance, then something bad might happen to him. Meanwhile, among our people it was customary, if a child died in the family, to distribute children's things to other families. Of course, it is very difficult for parents who have lost newborns to take the prepared dowry from the shelves... But if these things are not stocked up in advance, then, following the Russian tradition, they should be bought and then given away.

on the BasketBoy TV channel

I’ll say right away: I don’t believe in superstitions and I don’t advise you to. You need to prepare in advance for the birth of a baby and wait to meet him fully armed, that is, with a dowry. Try to imagine that you have been discharged from the maternity hospital, and you, a happy (albeit exhausted from childbirth) mother, come home, where there is no crib, no diaper, no snot pump. When will you deign to buy all this? Will you trust dad? Fine. Personally, for a long time I could not come to terms with the color of the bath towel for my firstborn. This is probably why the second time I was smarter and prepared a trousseau for the second baby in advance.

What is this beloved trousseau for a newborn? Probably, this list can be endless (much is determined by the thickness of the wallet), but there are things that you cannot do without. It’s no secret that children are “expensive,” so you need to save for them in advance. So, let's talk about the dowry - about and about useless things. Before preparing a dowry, it is advisable to know the gender of the unborn baby, otherwise it will be more difficult to decide on the color scheme of things. But there are little tricks: neutral tones and patterns are universal. And, of course, the number of future children, because for triplets all purchases are tripled.

Large must-have purchases

  • Stroller. Many people think that you can buy a stroller even after the baby is born, they say, the walks will still be short in the first days. However, from these first days the baby should get used to the “stroller” walk. What to look for when choosing a stroller? Personally, I was responsible for color and fashion trends. My husband insisted: the stroller should be light, because we live in a house without an elevator on the 5th floor, easily manageable, because the quality of the roads is much better, “not made of oak,” so that the baby does not shake, but lulls him to sleep and is safe, so that, if desired, 4- This one-month-old toddler was unable to “jump” into the wild. Fortunately, I listened to him.
  • Crib. Reliable and environmentally friendly - these are the main priorities when choosing a crib for a newborn. Choose a crib made of wood, pay attention to the height of its bottom (it must be adjustable) and the intervals between the slats (from 2.5 cm to 6 cm). When buying a crib, immediately buy a mattress. Filling: coconut flakes or buckwheat husks. A separate question is canopies for the crib, which I probably dreamed of since childhood. I won’t say that the thing is extremely necessary, but it’s beautiful! What you need to buy is protective sides (neither drafts nor impacts are a problem in this case). Two sets of bed linen for a crib are also necessary. And don’t forget about oilcloth, especially if you use diapers.
  • Car seat. Necessary if you have a car, of course. For a newborn, buy a model from 0 kg. The thing is very convenient and necessary for long trips.
  • Baby changing table. Sometimes its function is performed by an ordinary table covered with a blanket, towel, oilcloth and diaper. But there are also special tables for changing, with sides and tables for baby supplies. The modern market even offers transformable changing tables: a table and a bath, for example. You can also purchase a special changing board and attach it to either your crib or your dresser.
  • Other accessories. You can also prepare a playpen, swing-carry, sling or kangaroo and much more for your baby. However, all this is more likely to be needed by the mother than by the baby. For example, the playpen was convenient for me, but my son didn’t like it. All these purchases can be purchased as the little one grows up.

Wardrobe for dowry

I know from myself: you go into a store with children’s things and you’re ready to take everything! After all, everything is so beautiful, so soft and small. Do not rush to succumb to the temptation to collect everything that is there from the shelves. Remember: a newborn grows very quickly, and after a month or two you will notice that a lot of things are still unpacked. Therefore, buy things either in different sizes, or gradually.

What clothes does a newborn need? Firstly, don't forget about the baptism kit as well. Secondly, focus on the season. You will need different things at different times of the year. Of course, it’s not worth buying a size 56 overalls in the summer, just like bodysuits with short sleeves in the winter.

You will definitely need undershirts, caps, socks, rompers (or men), mittens and diapers. Choose clothes for your newborn from soft natural fabrics. Don't forget about the conveniences for dressing and undressing. It is better to buy vests with fastenings in the front, preferably with buttons. Pay attention to the interior decoration of the clothes - nothing should rub the child. Perhaps in the first month it will be enough for you:

  • 5-10 vests;
  • 3-5 caps;
  • 1-2 hats for walking;
  • 2-3 pairs of socks;
  • 1-2 pairs of mittens to prevent the baby from scratching;
  • walking kit depending on the time of year;
  • sliders (if you use disposable diapers, then 3-5 pieces are enough for you).

Everything for newborn care

Everything for swimming. Choose a bathtub made of high-quality material, with a flat bottom. You can also buy a slide or a foam mattress for bathing, although many mothers claim that it is more convenient to bathe the baby in a regular diaper. Bathing product (baby soap or shampoo), a soft washcloth, a water thermometer, and, of course, a terry towel - you can’t do without this.

Cosmetic bag. A children's cosmetic bag should contain:

  • Scissors with blunt ends;
  • Cotton swabs (for newborns);
  • Comb with soft bristles;
  • Diaper or diaper rash cream;
  • Milk or oil after bathing (although many people use regular pasteurized sunflower oil);
  • Wet wipes (preferably a regular jar of warm water and cotton wool);
  • And, of course, diapers. Don't buy a big pack of diapers right away. You may not be able to guess the size, and they may not suit a small butt. If you are against disposable diapers, stock up on diapers - gauze, calico and flannelette.

First aid kit. No self-medication, however, a first aid kit should always be at hand with the essentials:

  • Zelenka, iodine and hydrogen peroxide (needed when caring for an umbilical wound);
  • Potassium permanganate (for bathing);
  • Herbs for bathing (queen, celandine, chamomile and others). We bought special herbal mixtures for bathing babies.
  • Sterile cotton wool and bandage;
  • Thermometer for measuring body temperature;
  • Antipyretic for newborns (most often Paracetamol suppositories);
  • Spout aspirator;
  • Pipette;
  • A gas outlet tube or a children's enema (however, experience shows that if there are no these devices in the house, then mothers do without them);
  • Medicine for colic (Espumizan).

Dishes. If the baby is breastfed, then in the first six months the only utensils you will need are a bottle of water or tea (and doctors say that it is not necessary to give children additional water while breastfeeding). If your child is bottle-fed, then you will need several bottles, a brush for washing them, a baby formula warmer and a sterilizer for baby dishes.

It can be useful

And a lot can be useful:

  • Pacifier. Do not force your baby to take it if he is stubborn, because then you will have to wean him off the bad habit.
  • Rattle toys. Well, where would we be without them?
  • Humidifier. Pediatricians recommend including this “drug” on your list of required purchases.
  • Scales. They are needed as a sedative for the mother: the baby is gaining weight, which means he has enough breast milk. But sometimes the scales only get in the way if the mother is too “worried.”
  • Baby monitor - will allow you to hear the baby from a distance and immediately come running when the little one calls.
  • Night light. So as not to wake up dad and big sister.
  • A mobile on the crib will both calm and amuse the growing toddler.

The list of things and items for a newborn can be continued endlessly. Maybe you can share your experience? What did you prepare for the heir's dowry?

Especially for- Tanya Kivezhdiy

The birth of a child is a very important event in the life of parents. Most expectant mothers and fathers prepare for the birth of a baby with all responsibility and strive to prepare everything that is necessary for the newborn. However, for those who are expecting a baby for the first time, as the cherished date approaches, more and more questions arise: what are the first necessary things for a newborn to buy? Where to buy all the necessary things for a newborn? In what quantity?

Some future parents are superstitious about this issue and do not buy anything before the birth of the baby. But think for yourself whether after giving birth you will have time to run around the shops and fussily buy everything that comes to hand. Modern young people now do not pay attention to the relics of the past and, saving their time and money, do everything in advance. After all, in the last months of pregnancy you have a lot of free time to carefully sit down and think about what you need to buy for your newborn. And after the birth of the child, you can spend time with him, and not running around the shops, because then you may not have exactly the things you need. Especially if you are expecting your first child, psychologically this prepares you for motherhood.

In order not to buy too much or, on the contrary, not to forget to buy something necessary for the baby, expectant mothers will find it useful to have a list of necessities for a newborn - things that the baby will need from the first days of life. In the above list, we tried to divide all purchases into mandatory and additional ones, with the help of which, if desired and possible, you could simply make caring for your baby easier.

    • Knitted blanket
    • Raincoat
    • mosquito net
    • Stroller
    • Stroller

    And a few more tips on choosing things necessary for a newborn:

    • A crib with a pendulum will greatly facilitate the process of rocking your baby to sleep, and when the baby grows up, the pendulum can be fixed.
    • When choosing a stroller, focus primarily on convenience, not price. It often turns out that young parents, having initially saved, come back for a new stroller after a while, because a walk with the baby turns into hard labor due to the wrong stroller.
    • A mattress for a newborn should be hard. This contributes to the correct formation of the baby’s posture. Now it is possible to buy mattresses with different side hardnesses that will last you up to 3 years.
    • When purchasing a car seat/car seat, pay attention to the presence of the ECE R44/03 or ECE R44/04 mark, which indicates that the seat has passed all the necessary tests and complies with the European Safety Standard.
    • All baby’s underwear (clothes) must be boiled, washed, and ironed with a hot iron before use. Iron internal seams. Children's underwear should be stored separately from adult underwear.

    But we would not recommend you buy the following things for a newborn:

    • Blouses that need to be put on over the head, since the child’s reaction will be definitely negative
    • Lots of clothes of the same size, so you won’t even notice how your baby will outgrow them
    • Wear brightly colored clothes, as they may irritate the baby's eyes. Opt for soft pink, sky blue, pistachio colors, and all shades of beige and light ocher are also suitable
    • You should not buy synthetic items for your child. Give preference to things made from natural materials. They are much nicer to the touch and do not cause allergies.
    • Do not buy clothes for your newborn baby with fastenings at the back, because your baby will spend most of the time on his back
    • There are a lot of disposable diapers at once, as they simply may not suit your baby
    • Formula milk without pediatrician advice
    • A simple solution to a difficult problem: buying things before the baby is born

      Very soon you will have a new addition to your family, but you don’t know what to buy for your newborn. In this article we will give you the answer to this question. Let's immediately discard all the “dense” stereotypes that buying things for a child in advance is a bad omen. We live in the 21st century, and therefore we will be guided by common sense, and not by some outdated misconceptions. More details

    A dowry for a newborn can be rich and varied. But first of all, it should provide comfort, good health and mood to the baby. And only then aesthetic pleasure to others.

    For a newborn, it is better to buy one-piece models of children's clothing (slips, bodysuits, overalls). In the first months of life, the baby spends more time in a horizontal position and sleeps a lot. One-piece clothing provides comfort, freedom of movement, does not ride up, does not expose the back, etc. Also pay attention that the seams on underwear are external, as they can press and irritate the skin.

    Dowry and seasons

    It is necessary to focus on what time of year the baby will be born. It is logical that in the summer a newborn will need fewer things than in the winter. Not only because they dress him less. In summer, things dry much faster, so you will need fewer changes of clothes. Expectant mothers admit that they often make spontaneous purchases - they take what they really like. But then it turns out that the thing was not useful: the time of birth was not taken into account. And, of course, you need to take into account the climate zone where you live, because summer and summer are different.

    Summer

    • Clothing made of light, natural and thin fabric. In hot weather, the baby's pain is severe. This is due to the peculiarities of thermoregulation of the newborn. He doesn't need layers of clothing in the hot summer.
    • Bodysuit, or bodysuits. Ideal for summer. Open legs and arms help keep the baby from overheating. You can buy summer bodysuits in the form of a T-shirt.
    • Sandboxes, or rompers. One of the options for one-piece clothing for babies, in which a T-shirt or T-shirt turns into shorts or long pants with or without cuffs. Sometimes it happens that the bodysuit rubs the baby’s delicate skin between the legs. Then a romper comes to the rescue. There is a huge selection of sandboxes: from the simplest, everyday ones to the exclusive, “ceremonial weekend” ones. Rompers are made from linen, cotton, knitwear, corduroy, and jeans. A small percentage of elastane or polyester is acceptable. These fibers provide greater strength and practicality.
    • Warm set of clothes. In case of cool weather in summer, one warm suit, a slip, a knitted hat, and a pair of socks are enough.

    Winter

    • Winter coveralls. You need to choose it carefully. First of all, pay attention to the quality of the filler. For harsh climates, a jumpsuit made of down or sheep's wool is suitable. Although the latter is heavy and bulky, washing it at home is problematic. Sintepon is the most common type of filler, but at temperatures below 10°C it can be cold for the baby. New generation insulation materials include microfiber synthetic materials holofiber and Thinsulate. Overalls with these fillings are light, comfortable, waterproof, washable in a washing machine, and are not inferior in warmth to down ones. The only negative is their high cost. Most often, newborns buy envelope onesies (there are sleeves, but the legs are in a bag) or transforming onesies (when the envelope turns into pants with a zipper). The overall set most often includes mittens and booties.
    • Winter envelope.
    • It can be used when winter overalls are not warm enough. It is better to purchase a spacious winter sheepskin envelope.

    Warm hat.

    • Can be knitted, fleece, fur. There is no need to worry about its lack of warmth. All children's overalls have a hood, which is worn over the cap in frosty weather. In addition, winter hats come in single or double layers. The variety of models and colors of children's hats is amazing. The main thing is that the hat does not “bite”, covers the forehead to the eyebrows and is true to size. Spring and autumn
    • A trousseau for a newborn in the spring is no different from the wardrobe of an autumn baby. If a child was born in the off-season, two important things are taken into account when choosing a wardrobe: windy, rainy, changeable weather outside and. Spring-autumn is a time when the heating season has either already ended or has not yet begun. Considering the likelihood of cool air in the house at this time, it is worth buying more warm clothes.
    • The baby's first and second layers of clothing can be the same as in winter. If the baby was born at the beginning of spring, you can no longer buy winter overalls, but get by with demi-season ones. And in case of cold weather, the child can additionally be wrapped in a blanket or placed in an insulated envelope. Demi-season overalls are light and comfortable. Most have fleece lining or a thin layer of filling. There are models with detachable linings. This jumpsuit is good because it can be worn in winter and in the off-season, adjusting its thickness.
    • Demi-season hats. You can buy one fleece and one thin knitted one. This will be enough, considering that the overalls have a hood.

    The question arises: when to buy clothes? Most mothers wait until the sex of the child is known. In our tradition, the cult of “pink” and “blue” is gradually weakening, but still has influence.

    List of universal things

    The dowry list for a newborn may vary. It depends on the time of year, the financial capabilities of the parents and, of course, on the aesthetic tastes of mothers and numerous relatives. But there is a set of things that will be useful to the baby at any time of the year and under any conditions.

    Mothers share their experience: 10 cotton and 10 flannel diapers are enough. And even if you don’t plan to swaddle your baby in the first month, diapers will always come in handy: they can be used as a towel after washing the baby, placed in a stroller, in a crib instead of a sheet, or on a changing table. It is recommended to buy calico rather than knitted diapers. After washing, chintz becomes soft and pleasant to the body, and knitwear stretches greatly. If parents have decided to go completely or partially without diapers, then more diapers will be needed.

    Baby vests.

    There are different types: wrapped without fasteners, with open or closed handles, with buttons on the side of the seam or on the shoulder. They differ in material: cambric, cotton, calico, flannel, cotton jersey, flannel. 5 warm and 5 thin vests are enough. Most mothers are unanimous in their opinion: vests without fasteners with closed handles are not particularly necessary. It’s better to immediately buy blouses with buttons.
    types: with elastic on the waist and straps. Most mothers prefer rompers with straps: they don’t slip, don’t put pressure in the waistband, and blouses don’t get pulled out from under them. Experience shows that for the first time 5 sliders of the smallest size 56 and the same number of sliders of the next 62 size are enough. As the baby grows, you can always buy more. If the baby is not in a diaper all the time, then sliders
    will need more. Moms praise the onesies that fasten with buttons on the inside of the legs. They are convenient for changing a diaper.

    Blouses. They are similar to vests, but are fastened in the front. They are preferred. There shouldn’t be too many blouses: 2-3 knitted ones and the same number of warm ones are enough.

    Warm suits. One or two are enough. As a rule, they are terry, knitted, or fleece. In winter or in the mid-season, you can safely wear them under winter overalls. And in the summer they can come in handy
    in cool weather as outerwear.

    Slips. They are also called “little men”. Experienced mothers assure: slips are the most comfortable clothing for babies. They are a jumpsuit with different types of fasteners: in the middle of the tummy, diagonally from the neck to the leg, on the sides. The buttons on the legs are located on the inside. It happens that the buttons are fastened on the back. This is not the most successful model, because it is inconvenient to change clothes for the baby. This type of clothing has not only closed feet (footprints), but also closed palms (anti-scratch guards). Convenient, but kids outgrow them the fastest. But models with elastic bands at the ankles can be worn longer. There are slips with folding foot pockets. If it gets hot or, conversely, cold, you can always adjust them. Most often, slips are made from cotton jersey or flannel. There are warm models for walking. For a newborn, the best model is one in which the buttons are located on the stomach and spread along the inside of the legs. 4-5 slips are enough for your little one’s wardrobe.

    Bodysuit. Modern mothers can no longer imagine their baby’s first wardrobe without this miracle item. The bodysuit covers the baby's back and belly well. Available with short and long sleeves. There are also swing models with buttons on the front, closed models with buttons on one shoulder or
    with a smell on both shoulders. Bodysuits with buttons on the back are more suitable for babies who are already sitting up. There are bodysuits with a collar, like a turtleneck. It protects the baby's neck well when it's cool. Experience shows that swing bodysuits are more suitable for a newborn - they are easier to put on and do not need to be threaded over the head. The main feature of all models is fixation with buttons in the groin. The bodysuit is worn over the diaper. That's why they have an elongated shape. There must be at least 5 bodysuits: two washed, one on the child and two spare ones. Typically, bodysuits are made from cotton jersey.

    Bonnets. A simple and comfortable headdress for babies. Let us add that in the first weeks of life it is also a mandatory item of clothing. The newborn's fontanelles are not closed, and the head loses a lot of heat, so they put on a cap. 2-3 caps made of cotton or knitted fabric are enough. You can purchase 1-2 caps with a footer (with fleece on the inside) in case of cool weather. In winter, the caps are worn under warm hats. An option for a cap can be a knitted cap. It does not have ties, so it can slide off the head. In the maternity hospital, newborns most often wear caps with ties. They fit snugly to the head and cover the ears well. Don't tie your caps too tightly to avoid chafing your delicate skin. baby.

    Socks. Most clothing for infants is made with closed feet. Therefore, it is enough to purchase one pair of thin and warm socks. They are most often needed when the baby is wearing a bodysuit in the summer. Or in winter, when you need to additionally insulate your legs.

    Anti-scratch. A newborn often pokes his fingers in his face,
    throws up his arms chaotically. These “mittens” are needed to prevent the baby from scratching himself with his nails. One pair is enough. Needed in the first months of birth. Many mothers do not buy anti-scratch pads, believing that they prevent the baby from exploring the world through tactile sensations.

    Clothing for a baby should be made from natural materials, without toxic dyes, rough seams or tight elastic bands. Avoid unnecessary fasteners, buttons, beads, snakes, ties and other accessories. Practice shows that the best option for fastening newborn clothes is buttons. Also, all new items must be washed in order to wash away pathogenic bacteria, dye, and synthetic particles from the surface of the fabric.

    Handicraft mom: DIY dowry

    Pregnancy, if it proceeds without complications, is a time when a woman can devote herself to her favorite activities and hobbies. One of them is preparing a dowry for a newborn with your own hands. This tradition has existed in Rus' since ancient times. Modern women continue it: they sew and knit for their little ones. The results are real masterpieces of handicraft.

    Knitting

    The range of knitted clothes is huge: hats, bonnets, suits, blouses, rompers, socks, booties, blankets, envelopes. You can knit or crochet. On the Internet you can find patterns and tips on knitting for kids. The choice of color and model is the aesthetic side of the matter. The baby needs comfort and safety. There is a special yarn for newborns: natural, delicate, soft, hypoallergenic. The choice of quality threads for knitting must be approached responsibly. Summer clothes for babies are usually knitted from cotton, bamboo and linen. Winter - from children's acrylic, cashmere, angora, wool mixture with the addition of cotton, bamboo, acrylic, etc. Handicraft mothers do not recommend knitting fluffy, 100% woolen things: this yarn can “bite”, get into the baby’s mouth, and there may be an allergy to it.

    Sewing

    It is better to sew summer clothes for babies from linen, cotton fabrics, and different types of knitwear. Interlock is well suited for sewing summer clothes in case of cool weather - durable, dense, smooth on both sides, heat-insulating knitwear, with 100% cotton content. After washing it does not shrink or stretch. It can be used to make socks, rompers, bodysuits, slips, and caps. For light summer clothes, a kulirka is suitable - the thinnest, breathable knitwear.

    Footer is well suited for sewing a warm trousseau - thick knitted fabric, brushed on the reverse side. First-layer items are sewn from footer: rompers, slips, pajamas, caps, vests. Fleece has proven itself well - cotton fabric with the addition of synthetic fibers. Outerwear or second-layer items are sewn from it: jackets, pants, envelopes, overalls, hats. For sewing demi-season items, we use a well-known fabric - velor. This is cotton with the addition of synthetic fibers. Velor is soft, practical to wear, and looks elegant.

    In addition to sewing and knitting, expectant mothers enjoy embroidering, making appliqués on children's clothing, and preparing a children's room. This has not only practical benefits, but also aesthetic pleasure.

    A trousseau for a newborn in winter, summer, and the off-season differs in the variety and number of items. Experienced mothers advise not to buy too much dowry, no matter what time of year the baby is born. The child grows by leaps and bounds. It often happens, and many mothers will confirm this, that new things remain that they never had time to wear.
